Kangas

A smart city district – at the heart of the city

Jyväskylä’s Kangas district is an ecological and a creative neighbourhood being built next to the river Tourujoki. Kangas is situated in the area of the old paper mill, only about a kilometre from the city centre. It is the industrial history of the area that gives Kangas its distinctive atmosphere. It is a place where people of all ages can live, work, study, use a variety of services and enjoy themselves. It is also where the latest urban planning is carried out together with smart and sustainable construction of the future.

Kangas is an ideal setting for innovative, future creative companies that wish to take part in developing a new type of business cluster and ecological neighbourhood in Jyväskylä. It combines sustainable urban construction with the latest technologies in living and digital services. Social wellbeing and sense of community are among the area’s core values.

In 2040, there will be around 5,000 inhabitants in Kangas, with 2,100 people working there.
